Dave & Lori make Texas Toast!

This is our blog about us. Our lives. It's a digital fingerprint, which we'll be adding to as much as we can pull ourselves away from our lives.

He's quiting his JOB.

So, my husband is quitting his super stable, super steady job at A&M to make Iphone Apps with his friends with their new company PHODDER and I'm really surprisingly excited! I love that he's excited to begin with. He's been staying up until 2AM on average to do his Phodder job after working at A&M all day.. and though that's getting tiresome (LITERALLY) he is still excited when he talks about the stuff he's working on. I'm thinking that's a really good sign.
It's actually not as scarry a leap as it could be on a lot a levels.
First of all, I really like the guys he's working with. They've already proven that they are willing to turn down a LOT of money to do apps that they have any kind of moral hesitation on. Their ultimate goal is to make enough to live on while working less/more flexable hours so that they can be more involved as daddies. I love that! I am not really SUPER confident that their hours are going to be shorter.. at least not right away. I have been given some experineced input that entrapaneaurs usually work MORE than everyone else.. not less and I can see why. No one else does your paper work, your taxes, your payroll, figures out your insurance, sets up meetings for you... at least not this early on. They are their own bosses.. and their own secretaries... maintnance staff... PR reps.. etc, etc, etc... But, we are in this for the long haul.. and I think their is a potentially awesome long haul, so we are trusting and praying and gearing up for the transition, which I'm sure will have it's bumps.
Other reasons for my excitement are that this business is already rolling along REALLY well. We're really excited about how much work they already have lined up. They've actually had to start having a lot of conversations about how to bring their work load down a bit (a very good sign that they aren't hurting for work). They've also been approached by increasingly bigger companies, making me confident that both their exposure and credability are growing and succeeding, so that is exciting.
Lastly, we are excited because we were just kind of ready for a change. I think Dave and I have felt a bit stagnet lately. It feels good to be doing something that takes some faith and some vision. Dave recently said, "I haven't prayed this much in a LONG time." It's funny how it so often works that way. I guess it's really sad that it often works that way, that we tend to get comfortable and start to forget to consider if our lives are meaningful for Christ, if our lives are really serving any greater purpose than paying the mortgage, accumulating stuff, and growing in status in our communities. I think this has been a call to Dave and I to start thinking again.. to wake up and look up and ask, who is our life about? Phodder may come, and Phodder may go. Time will tell, but I hope that as we move into this next year Dave and I are growing closer and wiser in the Lord. I really want our life to be about more than this short time that we are here on this earth. We would love your prayers as we start this new direction. Thanks.

I guess we CAN't Pull ourselves away...

So, I just stumbled upon this blog this morning to realize it was open in Dec. of 2005 and the one an only post... Dec 2005. A lot has happened since then. I guess all that happening has kind of tied us up. Oh what you think you can accomplish when you're days away from the birth of your first child.. as we were in that fateful month of December 2005. Fast forward to October 2009 (cool, time travel) and we have a almost 4 year old daughter who only stops talking when she is asleep... yes.. she even talks with food in her mouth. Cut her some slack.. she's 4. Our son came whirling in behind her 18 months after she was born. I remember having a 10 month old on one hip and a very surprising pregnancy test in the other... THAT WAS FUN! Now, we know that the exact combo of genes that was Joel that were waiting at that exact moment were just WAY to good to pass up. He's gorgeous, funny, smart and every bit a joy and he and his sister really could be twins. I think God decided on a slight pause simply because Ana is clearly NOT a cuddler and Joel is an insasiable cuddler and they might have come to blows in the womb. :)

Dave an I have been married for 7 years now, and I still look at him almost daily and thank every lucky star and more importantly my Abba that I have such an incredable man beside me. The roller coasters have come (moves, family deaths, collicy baby, and scrimping pennies), and we have had days were we heard birds screetching more than singing "every time we appeared", but are stronger than we have ever been and what we have is real and grounded and beautiful and imperfect, but centered on the perfect, which is Christ in our lives.

I am emerging from mommy of two boddlers (my coined phrase for the baby/toddler years) with a new found set of passions, and a tendency to run too fast forward into the future. God is teaching me constantly to slow down and enjoy the season because it will be gone in a blink. But what a hard lesson to learn when you've been sitting on the couch nursing a baby for years, followed by potty training and a large enough stack of dishes to stretch to the moon and back in the course of the last 3 years. He sends me constant reminders of what is at stake to be missed though... like my daughter running in mid blog to tell me, "Mommy I'm a teranadon". So, blogs can wait, and cleaning can wait, and being a wild and successful crafter/entrepaunaur can wait... my kids are adorable and quotable and moldable.. and the time is passing so quickly.. So, I will tell you about Dave quiting his job next month to create Iphone apps with his 2 friends and their own COMPANY on the NEXT blog. Because I have a date with an ice coffee, elmo, and my two fabulous kids!!
